2018年の初めに500店舗を突破したApple Storeですが、地球上でそれだけの店舗があれば、時には予測もつかない出来事があっても不思議ではありません。米マンハッタンのApple Storeに、誤って約300万円分もの覚せい剤が送りつけられるという事件が発生しました。

日々多くの製品を入荷するApple Storeですが、7月7日にFedExで配送されてきた“商品”は格別でした。米マンハッタンに位置するGrand Central TerminalのApple Storeに届いたのは、0.9kg（2ポンド）もの覚せい剤だったのです。

もちろん、これは送り主が住所を間違えたことによるもので、犯人は数日後にあえなく御用となりました。

覚せい剤は数百mg～数g単位で販売されるのが一般的であることを思えば、0.9kgという量がいかに桁違いかが分かるというものでしょう。
ニュースサイトCult of Macの概算によると、本来であれば、およそ26,000ドル～36,000ドル（約286万円～396万円）で売り捌かれるはずだったとのことです。

問題のApple Storeは、覚せい剤の到着後は捜査のため一時的に閉鎖されたそうですが、現在は通常どおり営業しています。

And then there’s the day an Apple Store employee opened a package to find it stuffed with tens of thousands of dollars worth of extremely illegal crystal meth.

A drug dealer had apparently mixed up some addresses and accidentally sent a FedEx package containing 2 pounds of meth to the iPhone store at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.

The Apple Store was briefly closed to the public after the box’s contents were identified. The dealer’s address was on the package, so he was quickly arrested, according to the New York Post.

Methamphetamine, as it’s more formally known, is a Schedule 1 drug, which to the Drug Enforcement Agency means it has “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.” It looks like clear crystals or blue-white rocks.
